this one was a doozy

scared me silly. Dreamt it the day before the Japan Earthquake.

God, please save us.

We were excited for a sci fi con or some event that were about to see. For some reason we stayed at a friend's relatives house a nice, maybe a crotchety old man. I think we had moved to a new house but but we stayed at my friend's relatives house that was closer. Everything was set to go.

The setting was urban, like Lakeside Chicago in the mid eighties, where I grew up. The place where we stayed had a garage door in the front that kept slipping. One of us would catch it and gently allow it to close.

Upon preparing to leave I had a couple of DVD sets to gift to my young relative(Robotech, of course). I left them on the front curb for just a moment and they were gone. The neighbor one house down the street was often giving us grief. He was my chief suspect. I went over to him and complained. I accused him and in fact I saw packages wrapped as gifts that looked like the items I was missing. I forcefully went into his house. My friends tried to stop me but I ripped open the package and saw that while similar, the DVDs were not mine. I left ashamed of myself.

Back at our place something was compelling us to action. It was raining and looked like the apocalypse outside. We had to move.

I think we decided to go back to our place. There may have been arguments on how to secure my friend’s place. It was a troubled time and we were anxious. I was in a car on my to my own new place when I saw the house collapse. The ladder that was propping up the garage door slipped and the door slammed hard to the ground. This caused a chain reaction collapsed the entire house. The old man that hosted us tried to stop it but he could not and barely got out alive.

So we reassembled at my place. I believe it was the group that was originally going to go to the event before. I told the old man that I saw the entire thing and how it started, regarding his house. There was much speculation in the group how this all happened. It had not only collapsed, but some of it had actually sunk into the ground.

All the while it got worse outside. And there were tremors. We were worried about this current house collapsing. We made plans to get out of town. We planned to take the most efficient cars from our group and caravan it out. By the time we got outside it was chaos and our plans broke. We ended up walking among the long crowds streaming to what I assume was out of town or wherever we were going.

There were maybe 15 of us, at least a couple of families with children and babies. We were armed and it gave us a small measure of security. We were supplied with food and water but were under perceived threat.

I thought someone was rude to us, or otherwise offensive to our group. I saw he had an uzi slung around his neck, but unprepared to use it as the magazine was out and it seemed like it was set for transport and not action. There was an argument I think. In anger I approached him with my gun drawn while lecturing him on manners. As I got closer I saw him draw a blade. I backed off and reminded him more on manners.

We took a break in front of a store. We huddled our baby carriages in a circle, like circling the wagons in pioneer days. I am not sure if she was my wife or if she was the mother of one of the families but she was exhausted. I sensed that this was the kind of exhaustion that would eventually lead to death. I saw her put her forearm to her head and her body almost went limp, but she didn't feint. She went into a small storefront and came back out. To comfort her I hugged her. I noticed that her top had come loose and she was half exposed. I adjusted it for her and a feeling of grief overcame me.
